Case Study: small non-residential rubbish collection

Background:

If the residential rubbish collection is usually correctly managed, residual non-residential rubbish is not. By little residual rubbish, we mean things like empty cigarette packs, plastic bags left on the side of the road, rest of sandwich, or crisps packages etc.

Usually, at least in the UK, councils already provide online services to report problems regarding litter, rubbish, or fly tipping. But they do not collect everything, especially not little rubbish. For those, a collective citizens effort is needed.

Project requirements:

  • One phase only: report rubbish on the map and/or remove it. (mixed mode: put & collect)
  • No time windows.
  • Project can be public.
  • No need for contributors to identify other contributors.
  • Project can be moderated.
  • Contributors can share issues with the project owner and/or other contributors.
  • Analyse figures and statistics to improve rubbish collection.
  • Create and publicly share a map (for instance after a year) to illustrate the small non-residential rubbish collection in the village area, the places which need monitoring etc. Map can be shared on social media.

Handling this project with PoiGPSClub:

  • Create the project:
  • Use "Put and Collect" mode:
  • Contributors report and/or collect items (rubbish) on the map. Collected items appear as ticked. Unticked items are still to be collected.
  • Data can be analysed, and maps can be created from the data and publicly shared.
