Background:
In several countries, strict rules apply regarding election campaign posters. Usually, posters need to be placed at dedicated (and sometimes tolerated) spots during a precise time window. When the election is finished, they need to be removed before a deadline. This removing process is challenging for several reasons:
- It is difficult to remember where posters were placed.
- Sometimes, contributors removing posters are not the same as those who placed them.
- Contributors can lose a lot of time by going to places where posters were already removed because of the lack of communication with other contributors.
Project requirements:
- 2 phases:
- Place election campaign posters and record their locations.
- Find and remove those posters which were previously placed.
- Define project start and end date so that posters can be placed only during a precise time window.
- Modify later the project so that posters can be collected only, and also during a precise time window.
- The project needs to be private and password protected to prevent outsiders to join.
- Contributors placing and removing posters need to be identified.
- Contributors can share issues with the project owner and/or other contributors.
- Analyse data and statistics to improve future election campaigns.
- Create and privately share a password protected map with non contributors.
Handling this project with PoiGPSClub:
- Create the project:
Then share this project with your contributors (you can invite them directly from PoiGPSClub per email, or share its PGC number with them) - Phase 1: Contributors use the "live map" mode on their smartphone to add items on the map each time they place posters. Alternatively, they can place items on the map once back at home if they don't have a smartphone or if they don't want to use their Internet Service Provider data allowance. They can leave messages to other contributors to share any problem they may face.
- The project is closed before the election according to the local law (Sometimes, election campaigns need to stop several days before the election). At this point, the project owner can already take a look at some statistics.
- Phase 2: once the election is over, the project is reopened but in "collect only" mode.
- Contributors go to collect posters and use their smartphone to indicate which items were collected by them. They can do this also later from their computer at home.
- Once the end date has been reached, the project owner can figure out whether all items were collected and can analyse the data in order to improve the next election campaign posters.
- The project owner can create static private maps from the data that can be shared for instance with managers.
